Newland offers a tongue-in-cheek view of the business world. Drawing on her thirty years of experience in business , she creates a humorous book of advice for anyone who works in an office. Her muse plays a large role in the book and is described as a margarita-drinking and peanut-butter-and-jelly-eating humorous entity. “While only two feet tall, she loves to dress in ball gowns and stilettos or gaucho pants and a tube top.” Though there is much hum or in the book , it nevertheless offers valuable information for readers . The author offers advice on such subjects as “Team work ,” “Pecking Order,” “The Office Christmas Party,” “Performance Reviews ,” and m any other aspects of the business world. There are also excerpts from interviews with business people of all ages . Additionally, she includes several cocktail recipes for various situations encountered in the business world.

Humor is front and center in Newland’s writing, from actual work place scenarios to her conversations with her precocious muse. Concerning the job interview, she advises, “Finally, send a thoughtful thank-you note to the interviewer (and the administrative assistant) the next day. Including a coupon for $3 off at a nearby donut shop doesn’t hurt. And don’t forget to pray to the job god while burning a few scented candles.” Combining great advice in her humorous manner makes for an entertaining read while offering valuable information. The perspective of the different generations working in business is enlightening, and her relationship with her muse is hilarious . Readers will find them selves chuckling at the many anecdotes and the funny but spot-on advice. Though a short read, this book includes a great deal of information on all aspects of the business world.
